Also you need a bad guy that has unclear capabilities. Take zombies for example - people know what kills zombies and what they can and can't do to some degree. Take zombies that have been exposed to radiation. Much better movie because they can keep pulling skillz out of their pockets as necessary to keep the movie interesting and the fights unrealistically balanced....right?
